Northumbria is a research-rich, business-focused, professional university with a global reputation for academic excellence. It is based in the heart of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, which is regularly voted the best place in the UK for students.
The courses are designed to allow students to develop the skills that employers demand. With field trips, guest lectures, employer-led CV workshops, sandwich placement years and lots more, students have access to recruitment representatives from a wide range of companies.
Students learn using first-class facilities in dedicated built environment laboratories, architecture studios and a virtual reality suite
Professional accreditations include the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), and the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists (CIAT).
The department has strong links to industry and excellent employment opportunities, which are significantly above the sector average (DLHE Survey 2014). The Sectorial Employer Advisory Board includes Capita, Mott MacDonald, Ryder Architecture, RIBA and Turner & Townsend.
The department is home to the award winning BIM Academy Enterprises (Ltd), a unique joint venture with Ryder Architecture Ltd in Building Information Modelling. Diverse commissions in the UK, Middle East, Far East and Australasia, including the Sydney Opera House.
